Emerald Cruises river cruise ship Emerald Astra was christened in Amsterdam on 31 May 2026. The christening ceremony took place on the quay at Cruise Port Amsterdam (CPA) with a water salute and in the presence of godmother Toni Day of Toni Tours, Milembe Mateyo, Harbour Master of Amsterdam and Monic van der Heyden, Commercial Director CPA.
Monic van der Heyden:“The christening is not only a festive occasion marking the arrival of a brand new cruise ship at our port; it also underscores the special and strong relationship we have enjoyed for many years with Emerald Cruises and Scenic Group.”
On its maiden visit to Amsterdam, Emerald Astra was also presented with a plaque and key. Following the christening, Emerald Astra will set sail on a voyage along Europe’s rivers, including the Rhine, Moselle and Danube.
Emerald Astra marks the next step in the development of Emerald Cruises’ river fleet. The redesigned vessel is 135 metres long and accommodates 180 guests. The ship features a modern exterior of grey-tinted glass and a luxurious interior. Emerald Cruises is part of Scenic Group, which offers highly acclaimed river and sea cruises worldwide.
